The second of the three, this collection revels in the Autumn Equinox, the old Celtic new year, gave us our modern Haloween, Thanksgiving, Harvest Fairs, Hayrides, Apple festivals, and Corn Mazes. It is the gate of winter, the time of transition in a very real sense, from the vibrant green of summer to the cold solitude of winter.
This is the final album featuring works, vocal, and original songs by Jan Goldsberry. Just days before her death, she called me to the window so we could share the winters first snow. She saw winter as a time of joy, rest, contemplation, and spiritual awakening. She cherished every season, as with every person, and the interconnectedness of our perceived reality I will forever see her in every first snow, for she has become all the beauty that she created in her time, for all time.
Originally recorded in the early ’90s, This collection was our most popular ever. It features a number of little known, but “should not be forgotten” holiday tunes Using period instruments and a novel approach has made this a standard for many families Christmas day playlist. We hope this can be a favorite for you too. Wassail!
Looking back at the body of Jan and my work together, it easily divided into two worlds. The first, with lots of old-time, folk, and bluegrass. After a few years, however, we migrated to more Celtic and Brittish music. This collection includes unreleased songs,, some from short term CD’s, one even pulled from a VHS tape that we never got around to doing The quality of some are not the best, I hope you do not feel disappointed, but as a retrospective, this is about who we were, in marking a place in time for all of us.
